Weekender cyclists have been around long before it became a fitness trend. Long before the Tour de France hit these shores for the first time back in the early nineties. Roads had fewer car users back then! At the weekend cyclists are now out in force. Family groups of weekenders heading off for a picnic. Groups of friends or soon to be friends who become weekender cyclists moving in a pack from flapjack location to flapjack location! I call them warriors as they need to be brave to get amongst the traffic these days.
Inspired by cyclists who shot past the end of the road visible from my kitchen (in Essex at that time) and a friend’ s photographs. The bursh strokes capture the blur as they fly past the gardens in their bright lycras.
An acrylic painting on canvas with shallow stretchers 50 x 100 x 1.5 cm.
Framed in a white wood casement frame 54 x 104 x 3.5 cm.
