Parting the waves is how I always think of it when the fans have pressed so close in, especially on the mountain stages, and then they peel back to let the riders through. Depending on where the fans are from and whom they support there may be a parting of the waves, or for those that they are less respectful of there may be little room to get through.
This painting captures the fans who may be predominantly French in 2017. Warren Baguil, the French rider, made France dance when he not only won his first stage of a Tour on Bastille Day, but then went on to romp away with the points in the King of the Moutain classifcation . He earnt his red spots with some close KOM sections on the climbs. Plus he won Combatitive Award. A real tour de force let alone Tour de France!
