Distant dreams of days gone by. In the seventies holidays abroad were only just becoming available to the masses. Our family holidays were spent in the South West of England in either Devon or Cornwall. The five of us would get into the Morris Traveller packed full with clothes, bedding, linen , windbreak, beachgear and food. Dad’s scenic route took us along the back roads until we got to a rented cottage.
One of a series of paintings produced in response to conversations with my mother who was living with dementia. Her memories are of flowers on the cliffs, distant dreams of staying in the hotel around the bay, and the sea lapping the sandy beaches. Rock pools provided hours of amusement and a huge respect for wildlife too.
Acrylic on 80 x 60 cm canvas.
Framed in a case frame of white wood.
