Argy Bargy is a phrase I grew up with. Often used at the dinner table when each person was trying to get their own way. Mark Cavendish was looking for a stellar start to the Tour. The painting, Argy Bargy, is my take on that moment in the Grand Depart, first stage of the Tour de France 2014 held in Yorkshire, where the sprinters were making a show of it in Harrogate. Then down went Cav and his broken shoulder finished his Tour chances.
I’d been out watching the racing and just got back to catch this on the TV. It would have been impossible to get back ahead of the pack due to a royal presence at the spot I’d stopped to view at.
