photo of edge of painting of a swing chairVintage Goodwood 2010 was good for me in many ways. It got me away from a difficult time to be immersed in another time! I was lucky enough to be offered free tickets to Vintage @ Goodwood thanks to a friend who had bought an old bus  – as you do! Managed a few hours of  cleaning the bus on the Wednesday night and then it was driven to Goodwood from a garage in West Sussex. Parked outside Goodwood House for the night we headed up to the races which was more successful for some of us than others.

Next day bright and early back to the site to enjoy all this new event had to offer. Music I would never have thought about listening to before and sights and sounds of people have  a really good time. The event was fun and some of the classic cars and vintage fashions were top drawer.

The vintage fair was lovely and the atmosphere remained chilled and happy as darkness fell. The swirling lights of the different rides caught my creative eye. A painting was spotted in the flying legs and chains of the swing chair. i stood and watched it for a while and took several shots to give me something to work from on return to the studio. Then the strings of  lights made a fairytale walk way back to the car through the trees.

Sadly it is less green field and more inside this year on the Southbank, but it will still be great to see everyone dressing up to the nines in their preferred era.

Swing Chair

Acrylic painting on 61 x 61 x 1 cm canvas.

As always keeping the colour palette minimal to give most effect. Small details like the white and red flag of St George I spotted. Expressive and semi-abstract to allow the viewer to sink into the painting and their own memories.
