“A little kiss on the corner” was created to be given away as a prize. I was providing support to Your Racing Car team/business which was providing hospitality at BTCC races.
So after trying out someone else’s style last month to complete a commission, this month’s commission was a totally different challenge. The timescale to produce the artwork meant that my preferred layering style to provide a smoother glazed finish could not be used on the AMD Milltek VW Golf and the Airwaves Racing Ford Focus ST in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship 2011.
So a more naive style of expressionism was used to create a colourful image of the cars fighting for the same space at a corner. After a review of several other photos of the cars and some ITV4 footage review it was straight on to the canvas for this one.
The background was blocked in and the marshall on the left put in as an impression. Then it was up early over the few days before the race weekend to add more and more; the painting to be used as a prize draw for guests of one of the sponsors, Pro-align, who have supported both teams this season and whose logo is on the cars.
Martin Byford driving for AMD Milltek presented the painting to Keith Playell, of Skidmarques . This opened up a whole new set of experiences in my life, including some exciting ones as you’ll see here.
